About Polly Kahl

Polly Kahl has an associates degree in business administration, a bachelors degree in psychology, and a masters degree in counseling psychology. She received a primary certification in rational emotive therapy through the Albert Ellis Institute and addictions recovery training through the Caron Foundation. She was employed as an addiction counselor at Caron Counseling Services in Wyomissing, PA, and she’s been in private practice since 1990.

Polly started Berks County’s first support groups for incest and childhood sexual abuse survivors whole working at the Crime Victims center in 1984. From 1985 until 1989 she served as a director on the board of VOICES IN Action, based in Chicago, IL. She also edited the VOICES national newsletter from 1986 to 1988. Polly is the 2012 – 2014 president-elect of the Berks Area Psychological Society and she’s the founder of the Berks County Task Force on Hoarding.

Through her consultation business Polly has developed slide shows on child pornography and other topics related to childhood trauma and has presented at many national conferences at venues such as the University of Chicago and the University of Delaware. She’s appeared on over 20 television shows and National Public Radio and is the host and producer of Hot Topics in Mental Health on BCTV in Reading, PA, as well as being the subject of several newspaper articles. She was the keynote speaker at the April 2002 Sexual Violence Task Force Seminar in Berks County PA, was the clinical consultant for the MTV sexual abuse/incest special 'Fight Back' and was the featured therapist in a 1998 educational film on crime and the elderly, produced by the Kutztown University for the Berks County Office of Aging. She has provided training on how to screen for pedophiles to the eastern regional branch of national Big Brothers Big Sisters and has provided several staff trainings for the Berks County BBBS agency since 1994. She is also the author of a book about the psychological effects of being on reality television on the Gosselin children of Jon & Kate Plus Eight.
